It can be intimidating and overwhelming trying to find a counsellor to open up to. Sometimes all we see is a name. There is so much more to the human connection and experience than that. My mission is to build a therapeutic relationship. I want to know you. You are worthy of being heard.
I was born in Nanaimo, B.C. I completed my Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing degree in 2016 at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, achieving Honours. I worked at BC Children’s Hospital for two years before pursuing an international nursing experience in New Zealand. I obtained my nursing license and worked as a mental health clinician, counselling adolescents with moderate to severe mental health issues (including anxiety; depression; family conflict; self-harm; difficulties regulating emotions; substance use; and psychosis). I also was a member of the transgender team, where I supported transitioning youth. I returned to Canada, where I continued to work in youth psychiatry in Kelowna, BC. I also wore other hats at this time. I worked on a youth homelessness and substance use team, supporting youth with substance use disorders in an outreach position. I then transitioned to community adult psychiatry, working with those with persistent mental disorders (such as schizophrenia), often accompanied by severe substance use disorders and multiple barriers. I am also a certified Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Coach Practitioner. Because of my experience, I am not afraid to ask the tough questions.
In addition to my clinical experience, I am an avid traveler. I have travelled to nearly thirty countries across six continents. From the churches across Europe to the plains of the Serengeti to the peaks of Patagonia to the temples of Thailand, I have been privileged to experience a variety of cultures and customs. These experiences have taught me to face the unknown. That we are only given obstacles that we can handle and learn from. And most importantly, that every single person just wants to be heard. I also bring my own experiences of struggling with anxiety; lack of confidence & self esteem; and perfectionism & people-pleasing behaviours into my lens. I often hear my own thoughts in the words of my clients. I get it, I've been there. I've also been able to experience the benefits of counselling and having someone to be vulnerable with. It's hard but it's worth it.
Despite my variety of experiences, one pattern has been the same: my enthusiasm for developing and maintaining meaningful relationships with my fellow humans. Nothing brings me greater fulfillment than being able to witness a human’s journey, with all of its ups and downs. I am here with you. I walk beside you. I sit with your pain. I celebrate your victories, small or big. I hear you and I see you. Wellness is not a linear path. I hold space for you to be yourself, with all of its perfectly imperfect parts. I want to know your emotional, physical, psychological and spiritual needs. I offer follow up emails/check ins to make sure no one falls through the cracks. I'm here for you.
